Adobe Rome Final Project

Using both the internet and whats available in your surroundings, look at different page layouts used in magazines. Using the different tutorials for Rome, design two posters. Poster must show use of, but not limited to, the tools in the previous three tutorials you've worked on.

Poster must include manipulated graphics or images (free stock/use from the net), a logo, and formatted text.

First poster:
Create a poster for a fictional movie that doesn't exist.

Second poster:
Create a poster for a humanitarian or environmental effort.

Yearbook Feb 28th

Today is the last day of February. Your page should be just about finished. Spend this time for any last minute changes.

Toward the end of class, you will be given an assignment based on thins that the editors need to complete pages that were not finished. If you can not complete the task given, you need to request a new one. This will be due Thursday.

Friday, February 25, 2011

Complete the Create a Logo tutorial if you haven't already. The final tutorial I would like you to work through is the Layout & Format Text tutorial. Once again, you are welcome to deviate from what the tutorial has you create. You can use different letters, colors, etc; just so long as I can see you were able to use each tool in each step.

Working with Adobe Project Rome, create a certificate for the winners of the talent show. Once the basic design is complete; create four versions. The versions are First and Second Place for Upper School, and First and Second Place Middle School. The favorite will be used.

After that you are welcome to play with Rome as you please. You can check out the othertutorials Adobe offers, if you would like.

Multimedia Today!

Continue working with Adobe Rome.

Adobe's Project Rome is already on your computer, you'll just need to search for 'Rome' using the magnify glass in the upper right.

Follow the Adobe 'Getting Started' Tutorial. While the tutorial is step-by-step; not everything is pictured. If you don't read the text that accompanies the steps, you will get stuck or confused.

Once complete, it should be a flash file. Since you can't upload flash files to your blog, just double click the finished file, and once it loads up into Adobe Flash, just screenshot it and upload that as proof of its completion.

Yearbook!

Unless you have a special assignment, you should be working on your page for February. This is NOT the same page you were working on in January. The pages in January were due at the end of January. At the start of February was the new page sign up. You should be working on one of the February pages or working on a special assignment from the editors.

Pages for February are due at then end of February (that's next monday).

You will get back the rough draft to work on your wiki article today. You will have to return it afterward.

1) Try to complete your wiki article today.
1- Read the front page of the wiki for pointers.
2- Your page should look similar to the samples linked on the wiki's front page.

2) Many of you did not post your animated text mini-project on your blog. Make sure you have. Some of your blogs are also way out of date, you might want to get on that if yours one of them.

3) Lastly you may either start working in Adobe Project Rome. OR you can look at some of the Web 2.0 Tools presented by your peers. Explore the wiki to find other tools.

Yearbook

Your page for February should be looking pretty good at this point. Hopefully you already have some photos that have been edited with captions and written content. At this point you should be pretty close to completing your page, with only maybe a picture or two not yet finished.

I'm not sure what to do today
There are always things you can work on to be on task.
  • Try out some of the photoshop tutorials you are considering using for your page. Even if you don't have the photo you want for it yet, you will find the tutorial easier if you've already been through it once.
  • Reconsider the layout.
  • Look over your written content, both copy and captions.
  • Make sure nothing is in the gutter, and be careful of the bleed.
  • Look over a friend's page and provide constructive feedback.

Multimedia Today!

We will be doing a couple things today.
1- Wiki Article rough draft. Next class you will be creating a wiki article for your Web 2.0 Tool. Today, I would like you to write the rough draft for it. This will be done on with pencil and paper, and will serve as our writing sample. Look at articles on Wikipedia if you unfamiliar with their format.

2- Complete and Post your animated text to your blog.
You have two different options to do this;
- Export it as a quicktime and upload it to your blog.
- Compress the file and upload it to your google docs and link it in your blog.

Yearbook Feb 8th - 11th!

I won't be here this week. I will be at a technology conference Tuesday through Friday of this week.

Don't forget, when I'm not here, it counts as a quiz grade. 70% based on sub notes, and 30% based on evidence of work completed on blog entry. Keep your sub happy and show me what you got accomplished for a good grade.

Your page will be assessed next week. Make sure you are working on it. In addition to your blog, I will also check begin checking your Studio Works history. You should be working in Studio Works every class for a significant period of time (some of the class you may be working in photoshop).

Don't forget to blog at the end of class!!

You will have a mini-project in Keynote to work on while I am gone. You will be creating an animated text. You have today and next class to work on this.

Animated Text
Mini Project

Look at my example, view it and tinker with it to figure out what I did. Then attempt to create your own. You will need a piece of writing that is free-use or public domain. I suggest using Project Gutenberg, a long standing free ebook site.

Project Gutenberg is able to legally provide the books for free because the copyright on the titles offered have expired, thus making it Public Domain. Keep in mind, these laws are based on the country in which you and the website reside in. The books are free to Americans, based on when the American Copyright expired and based on American Law, but it may differ in other countries based on their laws.

Today we will discuss a few things. If there is anything you didn't finish last class, be sure to do so today. If you haven't looked up anything in regards to Egypt and Social Media, now would be a good time to do so.

I will be at a technology conference Tuesday through Friday of this week. What you show me these days will be quiz grades. You will have a mini-project in Keynote to work on while I am gone. If you're caught up on everything from previous classes, go ahead and find a public domain text you would like to use for the mini-project you will work on this week. Keep in mind, just because you can find certain titles in Public Domain, doesn't mean you should use them. Make sure the text you've selected contains no inappropriate content or language.

Don't forget your daily blog post.

Yearbook Today!

I will be at a technology conference Tuesday through Friday of this week. At the start of next week, your pages will be reviewed. If you have little to show for the two weeks you've had so far, your page will be offered to others who may be more interested in it.

Continue working on your page. Don't forget, the completed second signature is the best model for your pages. Be sure to refer to it for writing style, layout style, etc. Keep in mind the rubric as you work, there are still copies on the printer if you need them.

Don't forget your daily blog post.

Yearbook Today!

If you haven't already...
Create your plan for what you will be doing over the next two weeks on your page. At the two week point, your page will be assessed. Try to get it near completion at that point.

Start working on the layout and writing today if you haven't already. Try to get photos this week, so next week you can get any retakes, photoshop them, and work on the captions. Check the ladder for your page numbers, if it isn't on there for some reason, or something else is on it, let me know and we'll get it taken care of.

You should be logging into Studio Works ever class day, reconsidering the layout, the writing, the photo's, and etc. I will begin checking your Studio Works login as part of a grade.

If you didn't last time, create a schedule of how you intend to get the page finished.

Multimedia

1st- Take survey's from student's who presented last class if you haven't already (assuming you were here last class). If you haven't shared your survey with me, you need to.

Links to Blogs

2nd- Using the illustration below, label each item (1-11) and whether it in input or output.

3rd- Cooliris
Check out Cooliris.
It can be used both on desktop machines like these, but also on mobile devices.
You can even put a Cooliris 3D Wall on your blog.

Play with Cooliris. Do you feel its just another search engine with a flashy appearance? Tell me what you think.

Try to post a Cooliris 3d Wall on your blog.
note: you will have to use an embed code just like with your surveys, and paste it into the 'edit html' tab of your blog.

4th- Perhaps you've heard about some of whats happening in Egypt. On google or any other search engine; search up Egypt Social Media. We will have a discussion later on. Find an article that sounds interesting, and give me a brief summary. We will have a class discussion over what some of you guys found later.
