Yearbook

1- Guidelines 4 (the final one) is now uploaded on my website. Test over these friday.

2- Further Develop Theme Ideas in Groups of 3
Use photobooth to take a picture of your sketches and post them on your blog. The default in Photobooth works as a mirror. You may have to flip the photo, or change settings in photobooth so it doesn't flip them.

3- Photo Evaluation
Last class, we discuss how photographers compose photos. Today, spend a few minutes discussing what the photographer did on the following photos. You can number the photos 1 to 4 when discussing them on your blog.

Photos from the Riots in Chile for Education; taken from NY Times and Boston Globe's Big Picture

Multimedia

1- Marshmallow Challenge Retry!

2- Guidelines 4

3- Today, iPhoto Challenge!
Can you take the source (on the right) and end up with a very similar product? Can you tell what edits I made and what effects I used to make the changes. Try it with another photo and post what you come up with. Can you tell what edits I made and what effects I used to make the changes.

Can you apply similar changes to another stock photo?
Post your it on your blog.

Don't forget to source your images.

Yearbook

Be ready to talk about your theme idea and be able to discuss photography compositions.

Multimedia

1- Spaghetti & Marshmallows
In your groups, you should come up with 4 different plans for next class.

2- Guidelines
Look over District Guidelines 3. Keep in mind, you'll have a test over these at the end of the week.

3- Stock Photography
When doing projects in Multimedia, it is important than you understand which images are available for use in your projects, and which aren't.
Stock photography is a supply of photos collected to use instead of hiring a photographer. To use most stock photography commercially requires paying licensing fees. However, alot of services provide plenty to be used without cost for non-commercial purposes.
While it's nice to give credit to your sources for using photographs online, it still isn't proper without permission. In addition, pulling images randomly from online could result in using a copyrighted image. If that is the case, a company could contact their lawyers. Some companies are more likely to do this than others, other caompanies just like to make an example of someone every once in a while. In addition to the lack of professionalism, taking the chance isn't worth it.
A good number of stock image providers have photos in which they have already given the public permission to use them. Majority of these sites do require you to create an account in order to access any of the stock imagery, free-photos included.
FreeStockImages.net has a rather nice list of resources.
4- iPhoto
Using video tutorials, learn how to modify images with iPhoto. Take a free stock photo, and using iphoto manipulate it. On your blog show both the original and your final edit. Don't forget to source the photo.

Thursday- August 25th

If you've made it here, then your in the right place.
Stay in close contact with my Blog.

Why?
The first thing to do when you get to class each day is check the blog.
The first thing to do when your absent is... check the blog.
The first thing to do when you cant remember if something is due tomorrow is... check the blog.

1- Look at District Guidelines, part 2 on my website. Can you answer these questions?

2- Spaghetti & Marshmallows
We will spend part of the next three classes working on this. Get with your group and spend some time on the first part of the Design Cycle: Investigate.

3- Blog Creation.
It gets boring using basic template designs, so customize your blog.
In blogger, if you check the design tab... at the very top it says Template Designer. Some of you guys have already played with the Template Design tab. Great! Those of you who haven't though... check it out and customize how your blog looks.
Email me the url for your blog before the end of class.

In the Design Tab, you also have options to add gadgets. Everyone's blog needs to add the gadget 'Recent Comments' (you can see mine in action on the left side of my blog).  In the design tab, when you click 'Add a Gadget', there's a searchbox in the top right of the pop-up window. Search 'Recent Comments' and it should be the second result that shows up.

If you'd like, you can also add an avatar as a gadget on your blog. My avatar is through the website Meez. I know Voki is pretty popular, as you can make them speak. Do you know where the term avatar comes from? It's kind of interesting.

Yearbook- Photo Eval.

Since the start of this year, we've seen protests, demonstrations, and riots in europe, the middle east, northern africa, and our own country as well. This past month, students in Chile have been protesting in want of a better education system and lower student fees.

Using your understanding of photography concepts, explain to me which four photos you think are the strongest.
