It is also color coded now based on what the photographic style for the sections will be. Problem? Come see me!

Seth Godin's Seven Kinds of Broken
Some of the stuff in this video is applicable to your individual positions, to yearbook in general, to your pages, and to selling books, content, ads, and etc. Watch it and keep some of these in mind.

What page are you doing? Which of these could apply? Is your page for a group that you're not part of? If so, how can you prevent it from being broken? Maybe you should come into contact with people of that group.

You will be, and should be, working on one of your pages. Need a designer, photographer, digital artist, etc? Check the whiteboard. Your page is due at the end of the six weeks (thats the friday after this, that really isn't much time). Make sure it is quality.

Don't forget your daily blog post! Reflect on the video and your page.

You might be a sad panda if:
- you haven't been checking the blog each class
- you haven't been posting in your blog each class
- you haven't been posting quality each post
- you've been off task on several occasions

Part One - iPhoto
Using video tutorials, learn how to modify images with iPhoto. Take a free stock photo, and using iphoto manipulate it. On your blog show both the original and your final edit. Don't forget to source the photo.

Wolak, Kuba. "Ribbons." Stock.xchng - the Leading Free Stock Photography Site. HAAP Media Ltd, a Subsidiary of Getty Images, 18 Aug. 2008. Web. 25 Oct. 2010. http://www.sxc.hu/photo/555790.

Part Two - Hex Codes, RGB, and CMYK
After the short powerpoint presentation, download the numbers file and follow the directions in it using the calculators linked below:

Play with the calculators above. Each calculator gives the same data, use whichever you find the most useful. Notice, red is already filled out for you. Can you figure out where I got those numbers? Try recreating red to figure out where they all came from in the calculators. I would recommend skipping orange and coming back to it, it is one of the harder ones.

Don't forget to follow the direction in the document. This includes writing about Hex Codes, RGB, and CMYK, as well as a spectrometer. Didn't do that? Go back and pay closer attention!

Need additional help? Ask me, a friend, or google it!

I hope you were paying attention last class~ Go to your page in StudioWorks which you are NOT working on for this six weeks.
If you have a page on the right hand side, recreate this page.
If you have a page on the left hand side, recreate this page.

Save it, then take a screenshot of it and upload it into your blog.

When completed, work in your areas or on your page for this six weeks (should not be the one for the quiz).

Yearbook Today!

First: Blog Edit
Go into the Design tab of your blog and add a new gadget toy our blog. Any gadget? No! If you look on the left side of my blog and scroll down you'll notice the new gadget of recent comments. Add this same gadget to yours. It will make it easier for you to see the most recent comments on your blog. How do you add the most recent comments? When you're adding the gadget, at the top of the new gadget window, search 'recent comments'.

Second
1- YB Pages
If you don't have your pages yet, come see me. If you haven't made a studio works account yet, you may also see me at this time.

You are responsible for two pages. In a way, you are the contractor for them. You have to make sure the layout for it gets done, suitable pictures are taken, the pictures are edited accordingly, the captions and writing match the content and are of good quality. The overall page quality is your responsibility. Examples of Theme Integration.

Each page will count as a project grade. One for this six weeks, the second page for next six weeks. Look here for your initials in bold.

You do not choose a random page and start playing, you should be on the page that the ladder shows. If the ladder says page 45, you should be on page 45. Also, sometimes two pages (a spread) opens at once, if you only have page 45, you do not also play on 44.

Start thinking about how you will get everything together. Which designer will prep the layout? Where will the photos need to come from? Which digital artist will touch them up? Who will write write the captions and content? Keep in mind the theme of photography through time. Toward the front of the book will have a more dated feel, toward the back will be more modern (more information on that later). Plan now and be ahead.

Are your initials not there? :O
Then we couldn't find your page preferences :(
Go talk to your instructor!

Learn the Studio Works Software. First things first, we have to make you an account. Come see me an we'll set it up. Click here to go to Studio Works once you have an account. Start playing with the two pages you have, learn how to insert text, images, and etc into the page. By the bookcases we have some resources to help you. Utilize those, and if your still having trouble, let me know.

Marketers
Continue marketing goals.

ID Staff
A day- Continue working on the website.
B day- Come see me and we'll get your s>works accounts created.

Writers and Caption Writers
See me and we can setup your Studio Works accounts. Start thinking about your pages and what you need to do for them. Start thinking about who is going to design the page, whos going to edit your photos, what writing will be on them, etc. If you have writing you can work on, you can do that when you finish.

3- Daily Blog Reflection

Are you blogging daily (as in everyday)?

You should be, its part of your grade :o

I'm done. I get to play games now.
Nope! There's always more productive things you could be doing.
You can play games on the weekend, or at home.

Check out Google Earth. It is installed on your computer.
What's Google Earth? Find out!

Search your computer for Google Earth, load it up, and get started.
Not sure what it can do? Find out!

Do you know how to create place-marks and polygons in Google Earth?
Figure it out, and see if you can find some of the big sights from the trip you designed.
You can even set the camera angle for your place-marks.

By the way: If you didn't know, Google Earth is free. You can download it at home if you'd like to play with it more. There's all sorts of things it can be use for, and lots more you can learn about it that we won't be doing in class. Check out Google's Guide to Google Earth, Google's Tutorials, and
Google's Showcase some other time. The Google Earth Blog has some impressive stuff too. They make use of youtube videos though, so alot of it you can't do here. Sorry!

Tshirts! We were going to order tshirts for class from imagemarket.
However... we can't :(

We need each of you to design a tshirt for Yearbook. You have today and next period to create a design. Take a look at the designs at imagemarket (Yearbook designs are in the Journalism section) and other sources if you need. There are a couple catches; the design needs to be something that appeals to both genders and all the grades. In addition, notice the t-shirts limit themselves to 1-3 solid colors. We need to do the same to be able to afford the shirts.

Marketers
Continue marketing goals.

Photographers
Can you figure out how to take photos for HDR on the point-and-shoots? Look up how to take HDR photography and see if it can be done.

You can also find out how to make a pinhole camera, and we might later on. Take a look into that if you have extra time.

Yearbook Oct 4

1- Theme
Your editor, advisor, and director of photography have prepared a powerpoint for you concerning the theme. This should give you a better idea of the theme's focus.

How can you help establish the theme through your position? Which historical style interests you the most? Why?

2- Current Events
Pop Show and Spaghetti Dinner this weekend (or maybe spaghetti dinner was changed to next week). Going to be there? Whether you are, or are not, how will you contribute to capturing these events in the yearbook?

3- Job Specific
Photographers: Go through the current photos taken, and first sort them into the folders they go into. Next choose the five (5) you think are best of each category, and drop them into the keep file. (the photos are on my flash drive, you will need to come see me.

Writers & captions: Create a form for Student/Parent ads for the yearbook. These are often seen in the back of yearbooks, and allow parent's to express their pride and celebration of their student's success. Finished? Look over it again, can any improvements be made? Is there anything else that needs to be fixed? Misspellings, typos, grammar issues? Have a peer look over and edit it as well. Needed complete by the end of today!

Marketers: Continue marketing goals.
Posters and Parent-ads ready for report card pick-up night; this happens this Thursday! AND they have to be signed off by our directors. So... they must be ready by wednesday!!!

Digital Artists:

ID Staff: A day? Continue working on website.
